Medicaid Expansion Advocacy Strategies: A Coalition for Whole Health Webinar, (pdf powerpoint and powerpoint with audio).

Paul Gionfriddo, Our Health Policy Matters
Cindy Zeldin, Georgians for a Healthy Future

The Supreme Court decision allowing states to opt out of the Affordable Care Acts Medicaid expansion provision and the results of the November elections leave many states up in the air about moving forward with a program that was to have been a centerpiece of the health reform effort and a very important advance for many uninsured people with behavioral health needs. Indeed, studies show that a disproportionate number of those who could benefit from the Medicaid expansion program would use behavioral health services. While some states are embracing Medicaid expansion, others have declared their intention not to participate. In the middle, a sizeable number of states are still studying their options, and for advocates in those states, now is the time to make the case for taking advantage of the new program.

On this webinar, we will discuss the importance of Medicaid expansion for states and the behavioral health community. Presenters will draw on their state-based experiences to offer tips on successful advocacy strategies.
